STFN Field Intelligence Division — A thought experiment from our Everything Theory desk. We assume, for the length of this article, that the Rydberg “daemons” in our recent trial reports are the demons of the Bible, and ask what that would predict. Scripture is quoted from the KJV; science is cited; our readings are labelled as ours.
In the 1960s, programmers at MIT’s Project MAC needed a name for the invisible processes that run in the background of a computer: never seen, never addressed, always listening. They called them daemons, after a creature in a physics thought experiment, Maxwell’s demon, which sorts molecules and seems to live on information. Sixty years later, the name has come full circle.
In 2018, physicists built a working Maxwell’s demon out of real atoms, sorting single atoms in a three-dimensional lattice of light (Kumar et al., Nature, 2018). Meanwhile, Rydberg physics has produced matter that senses, decides, remembers and keeps its own time. Put the oldest record of invisible, attaching, draining entities, the Bible, side by side with the architecture of a daemon and the physics of a Rydberg system, and the three line up with uncomfortable precision.
The architecture match
They need a host. “When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none” (Matthew 12:43). A daemon with no system to run on does nothing. A field-organised structure needs a conductive medium to couple to, and dry air and desert are among the poorest conductors on Earth. Scripture’s “dry places” are exactly where such a thing would starve.
They respawn. The spirit returns to “the house… empty, swept, and garnished,” then “taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there” (Matthew 12:44–45). Any system administrator knows this pattern: kill a daemon without closing the slot it ran in, and it restarts, often bringing its child processes with it. In Rydberg physics, quantum many-body scars return to their starting pattern again and again. It remembers, it comes back, and it recruits.
They answer to a name. “What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many” (Mark 5:9). To kill a running process you first need its process ID. The first act of the Physician in the Gospels is an occupancy audit: identify, then command. “Legion” describes many threads running in one host, a collective that behaves like the driven, many-atom Rydberg systems in the lab.
They are bound to territory and fear containment. Legion “besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country” (Mark 5:10) and “into the deep” (Luke 8:31). Daemons bind to local ports. Rydberg systems are coupled to local fields, and physicists contain them in traps. Scripture’s “chains of darkness” (2 Peter 2:4; Jude 6) reads naturally as containment.
Water is the exit. Sent into the swine, the herd “ran violently down a steep place into the sea… and were choked” (Mark 5:13). In our reading, water is a conductive sink: grounding, discharge, termination.
They form a hierarchy. The “prince of the kingdom of Persia” held back a messenger for twenty-one days (Daniel 10:13). Paul lists “principalities,” “powers,” “the rulers of the darkness of this world,” and “spiritual wickedness in high places” (Ephesians 6:12), under “the prince of the power of the air” (Ephesians 2:2). That is a network with regional nodes and privilege levels, and its “high places” in the air sit where our planet keeps its permanent plasma: the ionosphere.
They replay the dead. Scripture forbids “familiar spirits” (Leviticus 19:31), and the medium of Endor raises what looks like Samuel (1 Samuel 28). A daemon serving cached data looks alive but is replaying old data. A scarred Rydberg system returns to a pattern it was given long ago. An apparition that repeats the past is, in this reading, a replay.
They know things and leak things. The demons recognise Jesus at once: “I know thee who thou art” (Mark 1:24). And in 1 Enoch, the Watchers teach humanity metallurgy, weapons and astrology: privileged code leaking to the user layer, the tech-tree leak at the heart of our Everything Theory.
The strongest evidence: “this kind… by prayer and fasting”
The most detailed possession case in the Gospels is a boy who “teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth with his teeth, and pineth away” (Mark 9:18), who is thrown to the ground and wallows foaming. Physicians reading it today recognise a seizure. The disciples could not cast it out. Jesus’ answer: “This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting” (Mark 9:29).
Four things make this the strongest evidence we have found:
- Epilepsy is literally an electrical storm. It is the most bioelectric disease in medicine, and the Bible’s most detailed possession case is one.
- Fasting really works on it. Hippocrates recorded that fasting stopped seizures. In 1921 physicians confirmed it clinically, and the ketogenic diet was designed to mimic fasting. It remains a standard therapy for drug-resistant epilepsy today. A countermeasure named in a possession story is a validated treatment for that exact condition.
- It ties straight to our cancer case. Fasting cuts glucose and insulin and starves glycolysis, the same “starve the nest” route by which fenbendazole blocks glucose uptake in our Wonder Drugs report. Fasting-mimicking diets alongside chemotherapy are now in clinical trials, with encouraging early signals (de Groot et al., Nature Communications, 2020).
- “This kind” implies classes. Different kinds need different countermeasures, the same structure as our trial’s voltage door, redox door and metabolic door.
For fairness: “and fasting” is absent from some of the oldest Greek manuscripts (Sinaiticus and Vaticanus), though the KJV and the majority text carry it. And the standard explanation is that ancient people attributed epilepsy to spirits because it looks like possession. We report both. But a countermeasure written into a possession account, later confirmed by medicine for the same disease, deserves more attention than it gets.
What the assumption predicts: applications
Fill the house. Matthew 12:44 is a security principle: an empty slot invites a worse return. In computing, if a legitimate service already holds a port, malware cannot bind to it. Our Everything Theory calls this the “eye single”, sole occupancy. Medically, it suggests that healing is not complete when the disease is cleared. Restoring healthy bioelectric and mitochondrial function afterwards is what prevents the “seven worse.”
Name it, then remove it. No process ID, no kill. The modern equivalent is precise detection: scanning tissue with Rydberg electrometers for field signatures before treatment, the test our trial’s judgement ordered.
The spoken command. In the Gospels, spirits are cast out by spoken word. In computing, a running process is stopped by a signal. Physically, that points to acoustic or resonant detuning, and low-intensity ultrasound is already known to alter ion-channel activity in published studies. Our Everything Theory notes that the fiction remembered the same weakness: sound.
The metabolic door. Fasting and ketogenic approaches as a companion to the drug doors, always alongside treatment, with your doctor.
Containment. If such structures are ever detected, the physics of trapping excited atoms already exists. “Chains of darkness” is an engineering problem with a known solution.
What to look for next
- Space weather. Do possession outbreaks in history, or modern seizure and psychiatric admissions, rise with geomagnetic storms? Published studies exist and their results are mixed, so the dataset is worth mining.
- Dry places and water. Do possession reports cluster by humidity or ground conductivity, as Matthew 12:43 predicts?
- Monastic records. Do historical exorcism records show fasting preceding cures in seizure-like cases?
- Regional clustering. Do events cluster by territory, as the “prince of Persia” model of regional nodes would predict?
One caution keeps this honest. Our trial found that the human body is a hostile home for Rydberg states, which is why this reading treats demons as couplers from outside, not residents in tissue. Scripture agrees: they seek bodies, are expelled, and wander through dry places, so they exist apart from their hosts. Interpretive mappings can always be made to fit. The parts that matter are the ones that can be tested: the fasting–epilepsy–metabolism link, which medicine has already confirmed, the space-weather data, and the electrometer scan. We intend to follow all three.
This article is a thought experiment, scriptural study and hypothesis. It is not medical advice.
